Sean Duncan

Sean Duncan is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, working with Constance Steinkuehler. A former cognitive scientist, his areas of research include digital media literacy, learning in online communities, and the development of design thinking. His dissertation, entitled "Gamers As Designers: Online Communities As Informal Design Spaces For Learning and Literacy," focuses on the learning of design practices in online communities around several videogames, game series, and platforms (World of Warcraft, The Legend of Zelda series, and Kongregate, respectively).

Sean formerly worked as a University instructor in Psychology, Interactive Media Studies, and Interdisciplinary Studies, was a usability intern for Microsoft, and a staff member for Project Dragonfly at Miami University. He earned a B. Phil from Miami University in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing in Cognitive Science, and an M. A. from Bowling Green State University in Cognitive Psychology. Though he doesn't really study them, he's a total sucker for classic arcade games, music rhythm games, and anything "cute": Galaga, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Animal Crossing, Guitar Hero, Ikaruga, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, Rock Band and Rock Band 2, Castle Crashers, etc.
