Dani Fahser-Herro

Dani Herro is a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in Educational Communications and Technology. Her advisor is Constance Steinkuehler. She holds a BS in Elementary Education and MA in Administrative Leadership and Supervision from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has worked as a classroom teacher, technology resource teacher, and most recently as a Technology Coordinator in the Oconomowoc School District.

As a graduate student, she has spent the last few years examining student use of technologies in-school, afterschool, and in place-based learning environments. Dani has worked under the guidance of Kurt Squire on projects related to Augmented Reality Games and with Constance Steinkuehler examining practices in massively multiplayer online games (MMOGS) and virtual worlds.

Her current work, and dissertation topic, centers on student use of Web 2.0 technologies (primarily blogs, wikis, podcasts, social bookmarks and video) to construct complex meaning within an in-school curriculum. She also teaches a graduate course on Digital Literacy and is particularly interested in helping teachers and students connect relevant, motivating, engaging technology tools to complex learning.

A native of Wisconsin, she loves the change of seasons but still cannot get used to the harsh winters! In her spare time she loves to hang out with friends and family, visit large cities, go to 70’s and 80’s concerts, ski, bike, or train for biathlons and running races.
