Rebecca Lowenhaupt
Rebecca Lowenhaupt is currently a PhD candidate in the department of Education Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her Masters degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she studied school leadership and development. A former middle-school English teacher in urban Boston, Rebecca is interested in the connection between literacy and identity development, particularly for traditionally marginalized adolescents. With the GLS team, she is investigating the role digital film-making can play in supporting identity development, providing individual voice, and supporting literacy learning. Other research interests include school reform practices in a climate of rapid demographic shift, the use of literacy coaches to support on-site teacher learning, and the school experience of recent immigrants as they navigate new languages, cultures, and literacy practices.
