Without a doubt, gaming in the 21st century is better than it has ever been before. Games like Sea of Thieves with its beautiful rolling seas. Or the endless reaches of the void found in Star Citizen with gas giants and moonscapes that take your breath away.
Seeing them in sharp 1440p (4k) Definition is almost like seeing these games with new eyes. So with all the latest and the greatest 1440p monitors out there it can be hard to really put your finger on the best monitor for your needs.
PC Gaming leads the way in terms of performance and quality. We as PC gamers demand the very best. A bad monitor can make or break a great system.
Wait? Why does this matter, its just a monitor. Just a monitor? A bad monitor will hold you back as a gamer. It will leave you in the dust against the competition.
Not only does having the highest definition possible give you a better advantage (for FPS finding and spotting targets is easier), but you get to fully appreciate the hard work and effort that went into the art behind these amazing titles.
I have complied for you a list of some of the best 1440p monitors available for you today. There is a wide range of needs and this list will reflect that. I will show you the most affordable monitor. The best bang for your buck. The top of the line and everything in between.
So buckle up and strap yourself in. It’s time to go explore some options in monitors. Do not worry. There will be something on this list that will suit your needs, your wants, and your budget!

Best 1440p G-Sync Monitors
If you have invested recently in a newer Nvida Graphics Processor then you seriously need to get your hands on one of these G-sync monitors. These monitors are designed for Nvdia cards to utilize their variable refresh rate technology. This is to give you the smoothest performance to date.
1
ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q 27″
If I come off as a bit of a fan of Asus, it is because I am a big fan. They make great products.
Their Republic of Gamers line (ROG) of products is simply some of the best. Using the latest G-Sync technology this monitor allows Nvdia users to experience the full spectrum of what their card has to offer.
They have gone beyond the 144hz barrier and are breaking into the other side with a whopping 165hz refresh rate. The days of tears, smears, and can I say it again…I hate motion BLUR…are over! This gives you some of the best and smoothest game play experience yet. It will keep you on target, and able to keep up no matter how much is going on at once on the screen.
These artists and programs spend a lot of time to deliver us these full and immersive worlds so its nice to be able to experience them in this level of fidelity.
Now at this price, it is hard to justify having a few of these suckers. This is more of what I was talking about as a primary monitor that is supported by two, less expensive monitors. So go with one of these as your centerpiece if you are thinking of having a bunch of displays. This will help keep what you are seeing directly in front of your character, the highest of quality. After all, front toward enemy.
Of course being Asus they continue to provide for you professional customer service and they offer a great product replacement should something happen with their monitors. They have also included the same eye-saving technology in their other monitors that deliver that same low blue and low flicker experience.
It also comes standard with the Vesa mount, which is AMAZING and allows you to set these up on monitor arms or on wall mounts. I highly recommend these mounts any time I see them on a product.
Our Rating: (3.9 / 5)
- 165hz Refresh rate
- G-Sync Tech for nVida cards
- Costly
- Does not work on AMD cards (you need Free Sync Monitors)
2
Acer Predator XB271HK
I know I seemed a bit critical of Acer earlier. They make good products, do not get me wrong. The Acer Predtor is a prime example of one of those products. This is one of the more superior and top of the line options in terms of a good monitor using the latest G-sycn technology.
Let me re-iterate how great this truly is, it gives you the best performance with little-to-no stutter, lag, smears, tears, or the evil and hated motion blur. The Predator crushes most in these terms and gives you a top of the line refresh rate coming in 144hz. So you are able to still get the sharpness and performance expected from the latest monitors. Add this with the G-Sync tech and you have a seamless gaming expeirence that allows you to take full use of the newer generation of graphics cards.
Like the Asus, the Predator comes with a hefty price tag that goes with its latest technology. However it is important to note that there will soon be some monitors hitting the market that provide both G-sync and Free Sync technology. You can expect a price drop on both individual monitors in the future.
This will open a lot of doors for most of us. This is a great option to give you the best performance out of your card and not kill your bank, but if you simply cannot wait and want one of these now, they are an excellent choice.
The stand comes compatible for the Vesa mounts which is of course excellent and gives you a lot of mounting options. Acer made a good use of space and size with this monitor and it seems that there is hardly a bit of wasted space. Every bit seems to serve a purpose and gives you very little distractions while playing.
Our Rating: (4.1 / 5)
- Uses latest G-Sync tech with Nvdia Cards
- 144hz Refresh rate
- Expensive
- Not as high a refresh rate as the Asus at 165hz
1440P Monitors Perfect for ALL levels of Gaming
For this section, I am going to focus on what I feel is the best “All around” gaming monitor. Not top of the line but not quite the low end either. These are great for all levels of gamers and PC builds.
1
Asus MG278Q WQHD 27 Inch 1440p Monitor
If you have been around PC Gaming for a while, then you will know that Asus is the name to trust when it comes to quality products.
I am typing this now on an Asus ROG laptop, they make good products. So when I was checking out the MG278Q 27 Inch monitor made by Asus, I was not surprised when I saw a great product.
The 27inch monitor provides the end user a 2560×1440 resolution picture with a response time of less than 1ms. This gives you a HUGE reduction in smears, tears, and that god awful motion blur. It has built in Asus eye care technology with TUV certified Flicker free and a Blue Light Filter.
This is to ensure less eye fatigue. Less eye fatigue means less of those annoying and painful headaches that can occur from gaming or watching a monitor for a long period of time.
This also will help for those late night gaming sessions or projects that keep you up, allowing your eyes less stress keeping you awake when its lights out!
A good monitor is nothing if it has a bad refresh rate. This bad boy does the job! Clocking in with a refresh rate of 144hz, it gives you a seamless performance with a lag free and smooth gameplay.
There is nothing worse than having a stutter in performance in the midst of an epic battle that can spell the difference between victory and defeat.
No matter how you want to set up your system, this monitor has you covered. It has a tilt/swivel head that sits on a stable platform base. This makes for an ergonomic design that keeps you comfortable.
If the base is not good enough for your needs, the monitor comes equipped with the ability to be wall mounted. So really the sky is the limit on how you set it up, and having multiple monitor displays just got easier thanks to Asus.
There have been some downfalls with these monitors. They had some problems with dead pixels and the screens dying on people. It is a problem that has been resolved and they are continuing to…monitor. Pun intended.
Our Rating: (4.3 / 5)
- 1ms Response time
- Asus Eye Care Technology (Less Eye Fatigue)
- 144hz Refresh Rate
- Multiple set-up options
- Bad run of monitors at one point (Some still in circulation)
2
BenQ ZOWIE eSports QHD 2560×1440 MONITOR: Black eQualizer
The BenQ ZOWIE is the official monitor of eSports and events such as the MLG CS:GO Major Championship. Around the world this monitor is know as the go-to for most eSports tournaments and teams.
That right there should tell you everything you need to know about this monitor, however I would not be doing my job, if I did not tell you more!
The Zowie offers something that is without a doubt a fundamental when it comes to a great monitor. It has the ability to help bring a much richer and sharper visual clarity to darker/black scenes using its Black eQualizer technology.
This was built specifically with optimizations for titles like CS:GO and Overwatch. You are literally no longer left in the dark having this at your disposal.
Like any good monitor worth its salt it has the required refresh rate of 144hz. This gives you a real time response rate of 1ms. Like the Asus you are not dealing with a lot of the stutter and lag issues associated with tears and smears.
They also have your eyes and head in mind with a low-blue light and flicker free screen technology that helps reduce that terrible eye strain. More and more we are seeing this become standard with monitors. You will note the difference with eye strain being a problem later on down the line if your not using a monitor with these features.
The only real issue I noticed is with the mic Jack. It does not appear to work when running at 144hz refresh rate. Its not a major problem but if you were expecting to use its built in handy headphone and mic jacks, the mic will not work with the screen at 144hz.
Our Rating: (4.2 / 5)
- Black eQualizer Technology
- 144hz refresh rate
- 1ms response rate
- Mic Jack does not work at 144hz Refresh rate
Best 1440p Monitors on a Budget!
Building that gaming PC can really put a dent in the ol’ wallet. So I have come up with some great options for their price. These budget options will get you started with 1440p gaming experience and save some of that extra cash for other hardware or accessories.
1
BenQ GL2706PQ Black 27” 1ms (GTG) 60Hz 1440p Gaming Monitor
In keeping with the BenQ standard of performance, this monitor is actually pretty good considering its low sticker price. You still get a lot of the same qualities found in the other, higher priced monitors such as the 1ms response rate. Of course at this price point you are not going to get the same 144hz refresh rate, so you ARE going to have some issues with some of the higher performing games.
This monitor’s refresh rate is at 60hz and this will still give you the ability to game and have a pretty good time. If you are making the move from 1080p to 1440p you probably will not notice any real negative effects.
Your eyes will still be at ease even at this level because their low blue light and anti-flicker technology makes an appearance here. I cannot stress how wonderful this truly is for someone that spends a lot of time on their PC. There is nothing worse than the headaches that can creep up on you from playing a lot of intense, FPS action games. Having these features really cuts down on this problem. This is something you are going to need to consider having as a standard for all your monitors going forward.
Its easy to set-up design makes having multiple monitors a snap. At this pricing point its hard to not want to get 2 or 3 of these instead of 1 or two of a more top of the land brand.
This is great for people that are planning on bigger builds for the future and want to sort of leap-frog their way up the ladder to bigger and better monitors/systems.
Our Rating: (4.3 / 5)
- Great price point
- 2k at 1440p Resolution
- 1ms response rate
- 60hz Refresh Rate
2
Acer G257HU smidpx 25-Inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) Widescreen Monitor
This is without a doubt, a bare-bones monitor that will get you up and running. For those of us that are upgrading from a 1080p experience to a 1440p one, Acer has us covered.
Acer has been a trusted name in Computers for many decades so it’s a name that can be trusted. Not known to be the highest quality and most top of the line with their products, Acer delivers a great entry level option for those of us not wanting to break the bank on builds.
This monitor will be significant upgrade from older monitors, but will fall behind when compared to others in its class.
Now that is not to say these monitors are bad at all. The quality of the picture is fine and you will be able to to enjoy a lot of the features that gaming in a 1440p world has to offer.
At this price, you are sure to be able to get multiple monitors set up. This is perfect for flight sim/Space sim pilots, FPS junkies, and people working on projects.
If I were building a setup and wanted 3 monitors I would invest in one of the more higher quality ones listed above, and supplement them with two of these monitors. Since your area of focus will be centered more times than not anyway.
These monitors are lightweight, slim, and easy to set-up. I am not a huge fan of their base with its not a deal-breaker by any means. Just be aware that they are not the best quality.
The response rate on this is going to be a lot slower than other models. This is reflected again in the cost. Coming in a 4ms for a response rate, while still not “high”, it is a big difference. For some people it can be a deal breaker. It is still a great monitor for its price and I stand by it as a recommendation for the more budget minded gamer.
Our Rating: (4.2 / 5)
- Great price for Multiple Displays
- 1440p Resolution
- Slim/Light
- 4ms Response rate
- Lower refresh rate (60hz)
Best 1440p Free Sync Monitors
1
ASUS MG279Q WQHD
Like the Nvida cards that use the advantages of the G-Sync tech, AMD users will get the same experience using monitors built in with Free Sync technology. This gives users a Variable refresh rate. Let me explain what that means to you. A variable refresh rate means that when you are gaming your monitor will be able to adjust between different refresh rates giving you the best picture available.
When you are running a game at 60+fps and experience rise and falls in FPS the refresh rate will auto-adjust so that you do not get those tears.
You have seen me talk about tears for a while, so what is a tear? A tear is when the monitor is trying to display to many frames at once but is limited by the game, that is what vertical sync is. This adjusts that and prevents those tears. Both Free Sync and G-Sync take it a step further giving you a much better experience.
Get the most out of your AMD card and go into the full light 4k gaming by investing in a monitor that utilizes this great free-sync tech.
Going with the standard Asus design this monitor is great for multiple set ups and can easily be mounted on walls or on monitor arms. The design of these monitors allow you to have your “best and your brightest” as your centerpiece monitor but still allowing for other, less expensive monitors to cover your flanks.
Just like the previous Asus models, these come with the ability to help protect your eyes using their patented technology that helps prevent that pesky and painful eye strain. They also have an ergonomic design that helps you set them up in a way that does not become a literal pain in the neck.
Our Rating: (4.3 / 5)
2
LG Electronics 27UD68P-B 27″ Screen LED-Lit Monitor
This does not happen often but its something I love the most about my job. Its when I find a product that is perfect for gaming but it is not marketed for gaming. People may often overlook them.
LG has a great 1440p monitor that makes great use of the Free Sync Technology that is almost required these days if you are running a modern AMD video card. LG is known for making some pretty good televisions and other home electronics.
I own an LG TV so when I saw this monitor I paid attention, simply because I really enjoy my TV made by them.
LG goes out of their way to give you a superior product at a much more modest price. This is something that I enjoy a lot about AMD products. They always seem to give you a little more bang for your buck. They are often less expensive but just as good as their competitors.
I suppose it really boils down to personal choice, because both are great options, and this LG monitor drives home with its price how great this option is.
This gives you the ability to consider better subsequent monitors if you are thinking of having multiple displays, or you could even consider one or two more of these to add to your collection. Just having this as an option is great.
I am not as big of a fan of the stand on this monitor and it does no the added bonus of the vesa mount so you are going to have to get creative if you want to wall or bar mount this monitor.
Overall this is a great monitor for its price. It gives you the added bonus of it being compatible with the latest AMD cards and like the others, the price on these will go down when they release monitors that can do both! So get em’ now or wait later and get more.
Our Rating: (4 / 5)
Best 1440p Ultra-Wide Curved Monitors
Now we get into the BIG BOYS in the 1440p monitor world. The Ultra-Wide Cured monitors remove the need for having multiple displays and offer the end user a lot of options.
Since there are many options out there for both AMD and Nvdia users (Free Sync and G-Sync) I have decide to show you one of each to help cover those bases. These are great for FPS, and flight sims and also offer a lot of the same features as having multiple monitors.
1
ASUS Designo Curved MX34VQ 34”
Yet again, Asus shows us what they can do with this EXCELLENT monitor.
The Designo Curved 34 inch monitor delivers to you a lot of the same features as other Asus monitors. They have a great product design and back-end support. This monitor also includes the low-blue light and no flicker technology that is without a doubt an eye saver.
This monitor is designed for the AMD user since it uses the Free sync technology we have all learned to love and enjoy. The benefit of having this technology at your disposal means a wide angled gaming experience that is not limited by is size.
You see with these larger screens you do have a bit of loss in performance in terms of refresh rate. The most you can really hope to expect from these wider monitors is 100hz. This is still a far cry better than the 60hz most are used to with 1080p and other lower end 1440p monitors. It’s not bad, just not as good as the smaller monitors at 144hz and 165hz.
The Design of this monitor is really superb. It gives you a frame-less view with its sundial format so that you are able to enjoy one of the widest screens possible without losing any visual quality or fidelity. Giving you a 35% larger viewing area than a traditional monitor.
With a 3000:1 Ultra High ratio your colors will never appear more vibrant and alive giving you access to every shade available to include black and slightly darker black. Without a doubt this gives you an added bonus especially for FPS gamers, being able to see targets easier.
It also has an added built in bonous of a charger for your electronic devices. So no more days of extra cords all around the PC while you charge your phone. Now you can just set it on the stand and let it go!
This is a great feature, especially if you use your phone to keep up with friends on discord and other apps while in games. Or for easy communication while streaming without having to leave the game or halt your content.
Our Rating: (4.2 / 5)
- 35% Larger Viewing area to standard Monitors
- Free Sycn for AMD users
- 100hz refresh rate (Pro for its size)
- Not at higher refresh rate (Con because 144hz is better)
2
AOC AGON AG352UCG 35” Curved Gaming Monitor
Going back to the world of wide screen gaming but in the G-sync arena, enters the AOC Agon AG352UCG Monitor. Like the previously mentioned monitor this will really help those of us who want to have multiple monitors but maybe do not have the extra GPUs or space needed for the extra monitors.
Like the Free Sync monitor, this is a G-Sync monitor and is only compatible with Nvdia cards if you expect to get the most out of both. This gives you the added tech of having the variable frame rates so you can maximize performance and quality.
One area where this monitor stands out from the rest is its built in “Shadow” dial that allows you to dial in exactly how the shadows show up on your screen.
This can help you have a more realistic and better view in those darker areas and gives you the ability to adjust them for each of your games depending on your preference. I had never seen something like this before and found it quite interesting.
Its fully adjustable stand allows you to set this bad boy up any way you like so that you are at the optimal viewing area. This also includes the ability to mount this monitor on a wall or a monitor bar. So if you decide to add more monitors or make use of space a little better they have you covered.
The ability to widescreen game at 4k is pretty amazing, and this monitor really encompasses all that is glorious about that experience.
Our Rating: (4.1 / 5)
1440p Monitors for Professionals
Not all of us need these monitors for gaming and we may use them for work more than play. So here are a couple of options for the professional or maybe for a more casual gamer that does not require a lot of bells and whistles.
Having more resolution means better design for art projects such as photos and video, so working in the 1440p resolution will give you much more depth and control on your content.
1
ASUS VX24AH
I am a gamer. I do work on computers a lot with writing and video editing. I mostly game on them. So for me it’s hard to break away from old habits.
The Asus VX24AH is actually a pretty damn good gaming monitor as well. It’s great for the office and at home. This monitor can be overclocked to 75hz so it will be a major step-up from the 60hz experience you probably had before.
With a 1ms response rate, you will be able to see video and images at a higher quality than you ever thought possible. It will seem very real. This will allow you to see imperfections and things you wish to change and adjust with ease.
One of the benefits I noticed with working with this monitor is that when you are using windows 10, it does not scale things oddly when you move up to 4k. You have a lot of extra room on your screen yet everything is easy to read and not blurry.
This gives you more room to work. If anyone has ever edited film, music, code, or pictures on a computer…it never feels like you have enough space. With this monitor you are given the space and you are not sacrificing quality.
This is not top of the line. It does not have all the same features like headphone jacks, or extra outputs for video. What it does come with the same low blue light and anti-flicker tech that keeps those eyes happy.
It also will not work on the vesa mount, which is a major bummer. The stand that comes with the monitor is not that great, and is a pain in the butt to move back and forth. I really wish it could use the Vesa mount.
Our Rating: (4.4 / 5)
- Overclockable to 75hz
- Large workspace for coding, editing film/pictures
- Helps reduce eye strain (Yay Asus)
- For the love of God, Vesa Mount PLEASE! (not compatible with Vesa mount)
2
AOC Q2778VQE 27-Inch Class LED-Lit Monitor
I talk a lot about Asus, but I actually prefer the AOC for this category for a couple of reasons.
I will start off with the fact that the ACO Q2778vQE is compatible with the Vesa mount so you can put it on a wall or a monitor bar. This really increases your options and gives you a lot more added versatility in your set up.
I really wish more companies would just make this mount standard or at least offer some sort of compatibility add on.
This monitor gives you pretty much every feature that you would expect from the Asus only the AOC also has a decent mount for your desk so if you decide not to go with the Vesa mount you are still good to go with plenty of adjustment.
I mentioned before the ability to edit better. Allow me to expand on this with this monitor
It has the ability of a Smart Contrast of 20,000,000:1 giving you an absolute stunning and vivid picture that will be easy to manipulate, blow up, and edit like never before. You will be able to trim and edit video and make those fine tune adjustments to expand your editing ability. You will be able to zero in on imperfect areas with photographs to give fine tuned adjustments like none other.
The refresh rate on this monitor is not as good as the previous. It cannot be overclocked so it is stuck at 65hz.
This is a drawback only if you are using this to play games or edit very high definition video over 60 frames per second. For most people, this will be a great all around monitor but leans far more towards the professional bracket as opposed to gaming. However if you used this monitor for gaming, you will not be disappointed. as it is a clear upgrade from 1080p.
Our Rating: (4.3 / 5)
- Lots of room for work
- 20,000,000:1 Smart Contrast
- Vesa Mount compatible
- 60hz Refresh Rate
Final Thoughts
As you can see there is a plethora of options out there to get you gaming and working in the world of 1440p. I hope that the list I have complied for you covers your bases well and gives you the opportunity to see just how many options you have.
I encourage you to read back over this before you make your purchases and make the right choice for your needs.
No matter what you are looking for. Be it the ultimate gaming experience, a more low end budget solution to enjoy 4k gaming, or that ultimate wide screen experience, I’m sure there is a monitor right for you.
Maybe you just want the extra space to work and to enjoy film and picture editing at a much more involved and in depth level. There is sure to be a monitor here that will get you where you want to be.
I have been gaming for decades now. I have seen monitors change and evolve from fish bowls to flat screens. From plasma into the LED.
They went from the days where 1024×768 was the standard for high quality, to where we are now where we have reached almost 4 times that resolution. It is pretty awesome living in the future and I hope you were able to find what you are looking for.
Keep gaming, keep building, and keep reading! I will see you in game!
